2024 LOéal-UNESCO Women in Science Young Talent Program: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 L’Oréal-UNESCO Sub-Saharan Africa Young Talents Programme. This regional initiative aims to empower and support young African women in the field of science. It seeks to recognize and reward promising researchers in various scientific domains, including life and environmental sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer and information sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must be either PhD students or hold a Ph.D in the specified scientific fields, with a minimum of two years into their doctoral program.
  • They must hail from one of the 48 countries within the sub-Saharan African region and be affiliated with a research institution or laboratory in one of these countries.
  • Alternatively, they can be enrolled in a university within any of the 49 countries in the region, which includes South Africa. Conversely, individuals from South Africa conducting their research within the country are ineligible for this program.

Collaborative Commitments of Young Talents

  • Successful candidates agree to:
  • Continue their research endeavors, for which they received the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan African Young Talents Award.
  • Cover the expenses outlined in the proposed budget within the application.
  • Submit a report on their research activities, the subject of the award, to the L’Oréal Foundation in the subsequent year following the receipt of the prize.
  • Participate in the “Management and Leadership” training as well as the award ceremony, typically scheduled in an African capital, expected in November 2024.
  • Attendance at these events is compulsory, with the L’Oréal Foundation covering transportation and accommodation costs for beneficiaries from all represented countries.
