The Pulitzer Center invites students to participate in the 2024 Local Letters for Global Change Contest, where they can practice global citizenship, civic action, and persuasive writing. This contest encourages students to explore underreported issues through Pulitzer Center news stories.
Eligibility:
The contest is open to all current K-12 students worldwide. Letters can be written in English or Spanish and should address one of the following Pulitzer Center focus issues:
- Climate and Environment: Topics include climate change, pollution, extractive industries, and more.
- Global Health: Topics include health inequities, food security, mental health, water and sanitation, and more.
- Human Rights: Topics include racial justice, gender equality, migration and refugees, Indigenous rights, and more.
- Information and Artificial Intelligence: Topics include technology and society, misinformation, and more.
- Peace and Conflict
Prizes:
The Pulitzer Center will select one first-place winner and up to four finalists for each issue category.
First Place Winners will receive:
- $300 to support global community engagement in their classroom (prize awarded to the class teacher)
- Publication of their letter, photo, and bio on the Pulitzer Center website
Finalists will receive:
- $75 to support global community engagement in their classroom (prize awarded to the class teacher)
- Publication of their letter, photo, and bio on the Pulitzer Center website
All participants will be invited to a virtual Pulitzer Center town hall event in November to share their solutions with other students from around the world.
