As a student at your institution, you are qualified to work on campus provided you have completed your application and met the following requirements:
- As a student, you must possess a study permit.
- In order to qualify, you have to be a full-time student at one of the following types of schools:
- a college or university that is publicly funded or a collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP)
- A private Quebec college.
- A private Canadian university allowed to provide degrees
Students who are registered for classes on a full-time basis are granted permission to have jobs on campus for the duration of their study permits. Jobs on campus may include a wide variety of common occupations. When attending a school with numerous campuses, students may consider themselves to be “on campus” if their place of employment is located within the same city or town. When attending a school with multiple locations, students are only allowed to work on the campus located closest to their home.
Federal Skilled Worker (FSW):
To be eligible for this program, applicants must be competent employees who can provide evidence of their education, level of language competence (either English or French), and previous job experience. In addition to this, foreign nationals would need to establish that they have a genuine job offer in Canada and that they are able to adapt to the Canadian culture of the workplace. You might choose to investigate high-paying skilled employment in Canada or submit an application for one of those positions.
Federal Skilled Trades (FST):
If you have the necessary skills, is it possible to work in Canada without a work permit? Then you should participate in this program. This wide-open category makes it easier for people to enter Canada if they want to engage in business or trade operations here but do not intend to look for work here. - The worker’s activity in Canada must have an international scope (it is presumed that a business traveler would participate in some form of activity that requires them to traverse international borders);
- The following requirements are presumed to be met by business travelers in Canada who are employed by a company based outside of Canada
- The majority of the worker’s compensation comes from sources that are located outside of Canada.
- The majority of one’s work is done in a location that is not in Canada
- The majority of the employer’s revenues are made in countries other than Canada
Visitors entering Canada for business should be prepared to present immigration officials with paperwork that attests to their intended status in the country. This documentation should be produced in advance of their trip to Canada. Documentation in this regard might vary, as this could be addressed case by case.
