Applications are now open for Cohort 47 of the YALI RLC West Africa Emerging Leaders Program. The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was initiated by the United States Government with the aim of training the upcoming generation of African leaders who will play pivotal roles in shaping the future of African business and entrepreneurship, civil society leadership, and public sector management.

Eligibility Criteria:

The competition for the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa is merit-based and open to young West African leaders who meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old at the time of application submission.
  • Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens and residents of one of the following countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Burkina Faso.
  • Nationality: Applicants should neither hold U.S. citizenship nor have permanent residency status in the United States to be eligible.
  • Visa Eligibility: Applicants must be eligible to receive any necessary visa to Ghana.
  • Language Proficiency: Applicants must be proficient in reading, writing, listening, and speaking English.

Selection Criteria:

Selection for Cohort 47 (Online) of the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa, Accra, will be based on merit through an open competition. All eligible applications will be thoroughly reviewed by a selection panel, shortlisted, and then interviewed before a final selection is made. Invitations to join the program will be issued to the selected participants.

Selection panels will employ the following criteria to evaluate applications:

  • Demonstrated Leadership: Evidence of leadership in public service, business and entrepreneurship, or civic engagement.
  • Active Engagement: Participation in public or community service, volunteerism, or mentorship.
  • Collaborative Skills: The ability to work cooperatively in diverse groups and respect the opinions of others.
  • Social and Communication Skills: Strong social and communication skills.
  • Positive Demeanor: Displaying an energetic and positive attitude.
  • Sector/Track Knowledge: demonstrated knowledge, interest, and professional experience in the sector or track selected.
  • Commitment: A commitment to apply leadership skills and training to benefit your country and/or community after the program.

University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland stands among the world’s top universities and is particularly popular among international students in Ireland. Annually, UCD extends several Global Excellence Scholarships to international students (on non-EU fees) commencing a course at UCD in September.

To be eligible for the Global Excellence Scholarship, students must first receive an offer (or conditional offer) to study in an eligible UCD course.

The scholarship awards apply to full-time Master’s programs, excluding all clinical programs, Master’s programs in the Smurfit School of Business, joint Master’s programs, online programs, and the MSc in Digital Investigation & Forensic Computing.

  • Applicants must be Africans, residing in an African country, and categorized as non-EU for tuition fees and application purposes.
  • Open to all successful applicants for eligible full-time, taught programs who are citizens of and residents in Africa.
  • Eligible programs are restricted to undergraduate and graduate-taught programs where the student must be based in Dublin and no part of the program is conferred by another institution.   • Applicants must cover their expenses and be categorized as non-EU for both tuition fees and application purposes.
  • This is a highly competitive scholarship, and as such, successful applicants are likely to have achieved a first-class honors degree (for Masters).
  • Scholarships are renewable annually, contingent on the student maintaining an annual grade point average of no less than 3.08/4.2 (upper second class).
  • To qualify for this advertised scholarship, applicants must have ‘Offer,’ ‘Conditional Offer,’ ‘Accept,’ or ‘Conditional Accept’ status associated with their application.
